404 hurdle game easter egg

The offline dino runner rebuilt as track and field: the dinosaur is a hurdler, the cacti are hurdles, the dirt is a running track and the clouds are stadium floodlights.

The pixel-art hurdler in mid-air over a hurdle on the track, with a NAIA sign in the stands
  • Playable, still a work in progress
    It's also this site's 404 page.
  • Built with my daughter
Naia, 8, was my game design and development co-conspirator.
  • September 2026
From the first playable version on 23 September to the redrawn track on 28 September.

What's in it

  • A hurdler where the dinosaur was
  • Space to jump, ↓ to duck

Why it exists

Two reasons. It's a fun easter egg on my portfolio, which is why it's also the page you land on when a link is broken. And it's a way to show my daughter Naia what agentic coding looks like, while she learns to code in Scratch. It's still a work in progress.

How it was made

The physics constants are ported verbatim from Chromium's offline.js, so it plays like the original. Everything else is ours. The runner, the track, the hurdles, the steeple and the birds are hand-drawn pixel art. The three sound cues are synthesized in the browser, so nothing is copied from Google.
